South America was never really high on my travel list (I know, stupid right?!), but it certainly was a dream of Matt’s. With a bit of persistence, he pushed me and it’s a decision I will never regret! Amongst anything I’ve seen on our travels, in so many different ways, South America was truly unbelievably breathtaking!
I wouldn’t suggest doing South America in only two weeks like we did as you need time to acclimatise and truly experience the diverse culture of this vast continent. We visited Lima, Cusco, Macchu Picchu, Buenos Aires, Iguassu Falls and Rio. It was impossible to choose my favourite place as each one had their own unique charm that resonated with me. Having said that, Machu Picchu was possibly the main highlight, particularly as I was so close to missing it due to a sleepless night and a severe stomach bug, which almost gave me a lifetime of regret. When the doctor came to the room and told me I really can’t go to Machu Picchu in the condition I was in, it made me so upset that I wanted to push myself more! I told the doctor that wasn’t an option as it’s our only day here (hence why I suggest the extra time). With some medication and a bit more rest, I was able to somehow do it… just! *pat on back* 🙂
